“Ding” sounds the bell.
Students are back in class, and adults are back to work.
Back-to-school time creates a sense of urgency for kids and adults alike.
It’s a fresh start and a new opportunity to hit our goals!
We love the consistency a school schedule creates for our lives and its structure for our children.
As adults, we sometimes forget we need structure to get work done and accomplish our goals, too.
Students’ progress is measured in school through their grades from work they accomplish over the next nine weeks and then again at the end of the semester.
That isn’t different from looking at our businesses quarterly and the end of the year.
What if you took the challenge to measure your work the same way your kids are measured in school?
Do you think you would get more done?
What if you did this with your team?
A quarterly goal is just a few weeks longer than the nine-week mark where the kids get their grades.
What do you think you could accomplish in that quarter?
What could that mean for the future of your business? What would you do to celebrate?
The key to winning your quarter is to map out your work into clear week-by-week sprints. These sprints are executed with daily huddles, weekly retrospectives, and monthly recaps to ensure you are on track. With this layout, you know at all times your team’s grade or score and can iterate to make sure you get an “A” and hit your goal.
Even if you didn’t start at the beginning of the quarter, map out the number of weeks until the end of the quarter now. It will give you a plan to make sure you hit your goal.
Your team wants to win!
Your job as a leader is to set them up with the right structure and routines to win. Use this structure and routine to set you and your team up for success! And don’t forget to celebrate your win!
